Evonik Industries receives the Ringier Technology Innovation Award 2014 for their new ROHACELL® HERO product

ROHACELL® HERO, the newest structural foam core product from Evonik Industries, Essen, Germany, has been selected as a winner of the Ringier Technology Innovation Award 2014.

ROHACELL® HERO product is Evonik’s newest technology advance in their well-established ROHACELL® PMI foam product line. The HERO product grade was engineered specifically to provide aircraft manufacturers and their suppliers with a structural foam core product that is not only lightweight and strong, but also meets the demanding requirements of the industry for impact damage tolerance and visibility. It features reliable structure integrity and excellent elongation at break properties, and provides benefits in production efficiency that can lead to substantial cost savings.

Dr. Kay Bernhard, Head of Research & Development for ROHACELL® said “No other core material offers such ease of processing in a wide variety of processes, including autoclave, resin infusion, RTM and VARTM. With its heat resistance of up to 220 °C, processing or curing temperatures can be increased higher than other core materials allow. This results in significant reductions in total cycle time and faster part manufacturing, which is beneficial for cost savings.”

The Ringier Technology Innovation Award for industrial manufacturing was established by Ringier Trade Media in 2006 and is presented each year to a select group of innovators in China's plastics industry. The purpose of the award is to encourage, acknowledge and reward individuals and companies who have introduced and developed a new idea, a new methodology, a new product or a new technology for manufacturing production efficiency, cost effectiveness or user convenience, which might result in energy savings and more responsible clean manufacturing in the plastics industry.
