The first ever recipient of The University of Tokyo’s Evonik Scholars Fund selected

To support fostering talent in research and development as part of a strategic partnership

Evonik Industries AG (Headquarters: Essen, Germany; hereinafter “Evonik”) and the University of Tokyo (hereinafter “University of Tokyo”) have been engaged in the Global Proprius21 strategic partnership agreement since 2014.
The agreement seeks to facilitate collaboration in joint research on leading-edge materials technology development and in the development of next-generation human resources able to achieve remarkable results in global research and development activities.

As such, Tokio Kato, who is pursuing a doctorate degree in chemistry at The University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Science, was selected as the first recipient of the Evonik Scholars Fund, which is a part of this partnership.
Evonik’s research facilities are planning to accept internship from the University of Tokyo some time this year as a way to create opportunities for young talent in research and development to build their global experience.

Further, three professors from The University of Tokyo will visit research facilities (Creavis, etc.) at the Evonik headquarters in February to exchange views on the possibility of collaborative research between the industry and academia and hold a joint academic conference at the University of Duisburg-Essen (February 10-12).

Evonik will continue to facilitate the creation of global social value by cooperating with The University of Tokyo in collaborative industry-academic research as well as fostering talent in research and development.
